Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is a game that marks Wario's second appearance and his first appearance in his own game. Wario Land was a platformer released on the Game Boy. This game was the beginning of the popular Wario Land series and the end of the popular Super Mario Land Series.

Gameplay

Wario Land is credited with creating the Wario franchise and for making the character popular. The game was directed by Sakurai who is known for his work on Super Smash Bros and Kirby. Wario Land is known for a more action approach to the platforming genre than Mario choosing more power-ups over timed jumping segments. The games noticeable difference from Mario Land is Wario's slowness, shoulder barge, and ability to pick up and throw enemies. In addition to new strengths Wario can pick up power-ups which give him certain hats that grant him special powers putting more emphasis on power-ups than Mario. Like Mario platformers, Wario Land is based on a similar power-up basis, if you get hit you turn little, get hit again and you die, if you get power-ups you turn big.
